Dear Friends and Relatives:
Due to concerns surrounding the spread of COVID-19, it has become clear that we need to be proactive in helping to slow the spread of the virus by joining the world-wide efforts to “flatten the curve” and to ensure the well-being of all.
As a result, Ka Ni Kanichihk and the sākihiwēwin Foundation regretfully announce that we are “putting love for our families and communities into action” by cancelling the 19th Annual Keeping the Fires Burning that was to be held on June 16, 2020.
Please plan to join us on Tuesday June 15, 2012 for our 20th Anniversary when we will gather to celebrate our Elders and Knowledge Keepers. We ask those who have already purchased tickets to consider:
a. donating the value of your tickets to Ka Ni Kanichihk to support the provision of culturally safe and trauma-informed programs and services to Indigenous and non-Indigenous community members.
b. Transferring your ticket(s) to the 20th Annual Keeping the Fires Burning, June 15, 2021.
Of course, refunds will be available to those who request it. Whatever your decision, we are grateful for your ongoing support of Keeping the Fires Burning and Ka Ni Kanichihk.
Our vision to acknowledge First Nations, Metis and Inuit Elders and Knowledge Keepers will not be sidelined and our Planning Committee is presently working on innovative alternatives. We will keep you updated as plans unfold.
