Engaging Men and Boys to Prevent Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking - "From Ideas to Action"

Details

On January 24, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Vancouver, the EmpowerMen Project (a part of Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre) in partnership with EVE (formerly Exploited Voices now Educating) will bring together agencies, experts, service providers, survivors, and community leaders for a full-day consultation with efforts focused on the critical goal of developing meaningful, concrete strategies to engage men and boys in preventing sexual exploitation and human trafficking. PLEASE DON'T SHARE THIS INVITATION. This event is only for specific individuals and agencies.

This gathering will create space for open dialogue, shared learning, and collective problem‑solving across sectors. Participants will explore practical, culturally grounded, and research-informed approaches that activate men and shift harmful attitudes that fuel exploitation. Questions addressed will potentially include:

- How can we change men’s thinking about sexual exploitation, sex buying,  etc.?
- What strategies and approaches work well? What doesn’t work?
- What role can agencies that work with men on mental health, intimate partner violence, etc. have in this work?
- What role can law enforcement have in enforcing PCEPA and deterring sex buying?
- What data and research are available on sex buyers (from Canada and internationally) and how can that inform our planning and goals?
- How we can engage men across the spectrum of involvement in sextortion, sharing of intimate images, sex buying, pornography use, sexual exploitation, etc.?
- What recommendations can be made to the police, the child welfare sector, the Provincial Government, educators etc. to move forward in a meaningful way?
